The game-changing element of our safari experience was the exclusive use of a private photographic vehicle. This unique feature allowed us to get at eye level with the captivating creatures of Mashatu, creating a more intimate and immersive photographic encounter with the remarkable fauna that call this reserve home.

Our adventure unfolded with 5 unforgettable hide sessions, placing us in the midst of Mashatu’s diverse wildlife. Surrounded by elephants, lions, baboons, and a myriad of antelope and bird species, the hides provided a front-row seat to the raw beauty of nature. From the grace of elephants drinking at waterholes to the power of lions asserting their dominance, each session was a sensory feast for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers alike.

A significant highlight of our journey was the exclusive focus on leopards during 13 dedicated game drives. Mashatu Game Reserve is renowned for its thriving leopard population, and our experience surpassed all expectations.

We photographed 7 different individuals, with over 30 sightings, including the extraordinary occurrence of witnessing 3 leopards in one sighting—twice! A mother with her small cub added a touch of tenderness to the otherwise fierce and elusive world of leopards.

The diversity of leopard behaviour observed and captured through our lenses was awe-inspiring. Leopards lounging in trees, prowling on the ground, engaged in the intensity of a hunt, and sipping water from a quiet stream—each moment etched a vivid tableau of the fascinating lives of these elusive big cats.

In addition to our leopard-focused expeditions, a delightful surprise awaited us on the last drive—a mother cheetah accompanied by her two playful cubs. The unexpected encounter added a perfect finale to our wildlife spectacle at Mashatu, showcasing the reserve’s commitment to preserving the biodiversity of the African savannah.
